Residence:
Clients of our Civil Program must be residents of Onondaga County, except in immigration matters. Immigration clients may reside in any of seventeen counties in central and northern New York. Clients in Family Court, parole and extradition cases are assigned by the Courts in Onondaga County. Appeals cases are assigned by the Appellate Division.
Financial Eligibility:
All clients must meet financial eligibility criteria that are approved by the Board of Directors of the Society. Criteria are based on federal poverty guidelines. Eligibility starts at $250.00 gross income per week for a single person. Approximately $87.00 per week is added for each dependent. Clients receiving assistance from the Onondaga County Department of Social Services or Supplemental Security Income are automatically entitled to free legal assistance.

Interviewing procedure:
The Hiscock Legal Aid Society has an "open door" interviewing policy (no appointments necessary) for civil cases. Client interviews are conducted Mondays from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Clients for all other types of cases are seen by appointment. Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
