Hiscock Legal Aid News and Updates

02

The Hiscock Legal Aid Society is pleased to welcome three new members to our staff:

Christina M. El Bayadi has joined our Family Court program as a Staff Attorney. Ms El Bayadi is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, where she received a certificate in Family Law and Social Policy. Before joining us, she was a Fellow at the Syracuse College of Law, Office of Clinical Legal Education where she communicated and coordinated resources for available legal services to patients at the University Health Care Center Pediatrics clinic.

Before receiving his J.D. degree from Syracuse University College of Law, Derek English completed an internship with Hiscock Legal Aid as a Law Clerk. He has demonstrated a true passion for providing civil legal services as he was also a Legal Intern at Legal Services of Central New York. We welcome Mr. English as a new Law Associate in our Civil Program.

After graduating from New York Law School in New York City, Sharon Sorkin was employed for more than two years as a Litigation Associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in NYC. She then served as Pro Bono Coordinator and Counsel for the Bronx Defenders until joining our Civil Program as a Staff Attorney. Ms Sorkin represents clients in our Cancer Legal Advocacy and Service Project (CLASP.)

We are also very pleased to announce that Michael Younis has been named Supervising Attorney for our Civil Program. After graduating from the Syracuse University College of Law, Mr. Younis joined Hiscock Legal Aid and for four years he represented criminal and family court clients.  He left the Society to enter private practice as an Associate Attorney with Wegerski Law Firm and then with the Law Firm of Frank W. Miller.  In 2006, Michael returned to Hiscock Legal Aid as a Senior Attorney in the Family Court program.
