Hiscock Legal Aid News and Updates

13

The Hiscock Legal Aid Society has received a matching grant from the John Ben Snow Foundation, which will match dollar-for-dollar all new or increased donations from lawyers, law firms, and legal associations up to a total of $25,000.

We are especially pleased to receive the grant, as it is the second consecutive year that Hiscock Legal Aid has been the recipient of a matching challenge from the Foundation.  In 2010, the organization garnered more than $33,000 in new and increased membership support from individuals and corporations as a result of the strong incentive offered by a $25,000 matching grant targeted at the private sector.

The John Ben Snow Foundation 2011 matching grant will allow Hiscock Legal Aid to build on the momentum of the previous challenge with the goal of significantly increasing support from their largest constituency, the legal community.  Increased participation from the legal sector will strengthen the organization’s credibility and success in securing additional support from private sources, particularly foundations, which will result in less dependence upon tenuous government funding.

The John Ben Snow Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in Central and Northern New York State.  The Foundation gives preference to grant proposals that seek funds for new or enhanced programs and matching grants used to encourage participation of other donors.
