Carrie Jefferson Smith is a Director & Associate Professor at the Syracuse University School of Social Work, where her academic specialization is in the field of Child Welfare.  She received her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and her Doctorate of Social Work from Howard University in Washington, DC.

Ms. Smith’s professional accomplishments are many and varied.  She has taught courses in human diversity, social work practice and advanced social welfare policy and services; conducted funded research and evaluation projects; and over the last 15 years, has produced a very impressive number of publications.  Ms. Smith also has participated in many professional activities such as peer review committees, invited lectures, and conference papers. 

Ms. Smith was given a gubernatorial appointment by Eliot Spitzer to the Albany Citizen Review Panel, where she continues to serve.  She is currently a member of the CASA and VERA House Board of Directors, where she is a Program Committee Co-Chair, and serves on the Strategic Issues – Underserved Populations and Executive Committees.  She is a member of the United Way Community Impact Cabinet and a Designated Trainer for New York Mandatory Child Protective Services.
