Anthony Malavenda, Immediate Past Chair of the Board of the Hiscock Legal Aid Society, will be honored at the Nonprofit Awards Luncheon on March 28th as a recipient of a Board Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions on behalf of the Society. Sponsored by the Central New York Business Journal and M&T Bank, this award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, fiduciary responsibility, management practices, creativity, impact, and business acumen in their work with nonprofit organizations.
Mr. Malavenda has served on the Board of Directors of the Hiscock Legal Aid Society for more than ten years including terms as a Director; Secretary-Treasurer; and Vice Chair and he is one of only a very few non-attorneys in the organization’s 60+ year history to serve as Chair.
His dedication and hard work on behalf of the Society have resulted in enhancing its ability to weather the recent economic uncertainties to continue to provide quality legal services to those in need in our community. Anthony led the organization through its participation in the Gifford Foundation’s capacity-building ADVANS Initiative, resulting in the establishment of a comprehensive development program and a marked increase in private contributions. He led by example and through persistent efforts helped to bring in new private sector donors and achieved greater Board participation in fund raising efforts.
Anthony Malavenda is one of Syracuse’s most committed, hands-on supporters…and a true unsung hero. His talents and generosity have benefited several local organizations: as past President of the Red House Arts Center; President of the Onondaga Citizens League; member of the Board of Syracuse 20/20; and past member and Chair of the Board of ReconsiDer.org. Anthony’s uniquely gentle and generous spirit moves others to join him in making a difference in our community.
